DSL 221 Diesel Technology Advanced Fuels

Credits: 6

Covers fuel injection pumps and their applications, fuel system diagnosis and repair. Prepares students to confidently diagnose and repair fuel injection pumps, governors and electronics in an industrial environment. Emphasizes safety, correct industry procedures, correct tool usage, and diagnosis of common fuel-related problems.

Prerequisite: DSL 210  and DSL 211  each with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Concurrent: DSL 220  
Student Learning Outcomes:
 

  1. Analyze and determine the problem and implement the correct repair of diesel engine fuel pumps, components, and their related systems
  2. Conduct repairs in an ethical and professional manner, respecting industry safety and environmental guidelines.
  3. Communicate with co-workers, customers, management, and public in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
  4. Apply fuel injection system knowledge to engine applications for maintenance and troubleshooting. 
  5. Diagnose failures and practice researching the failure symptoms in service manuals and other sources to research and diagnosis failures.
