CG 090 Peer Assistance Training Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Provides training in implementing communication skills, leadership qualities, referral techniques, and assistance in locating college and community-based resources and services as peer assistant. Students serve as resource personnel to refer other students with personal, social or academic concerns.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Describe the role and limits of a peer assistant.
- Identify specific college policies and procedures for students.
- Explain and operate the college’s computerized career exploration programs.
- Identify and explain academic and scholarship resources.
- Identify and use decision-making/problem solving strategies to assist students with personal or academic concerns.
- Use interpersonal communication skills in order to serve as a resource with other students.
- Provide information and referrals, locate resources, and assist other students to utilize services within the Counseling and Career Services department.
