The Computer Information Systems certificate prepares students for work in the design and implementation of business systems solutions, software and systems troubleshooting, technical support, and end-user training; to manage workgroup resources, including file shares, print shares, and physical connections; as well as to install, configure and support industry required applications to the enterprise environment; and to use integrated software packages to analyze and support business problems related to the IT infrastructure.

Program Outcomes

Students completing the Computer Information Systems certificate should be able to satisfy the following outcomes:

1. Acquire new information and adapt to changes in the computer technology field.
2. Apply a logical and systematic approach to solve problems. 
3. Use written, oral and visual interpersonal skills to communicate with individuals or small groups.
4. Configure and troubleshoot access to resources, hardware devices and drivers, storage use and network connections.
5. Install, configure, use, maintain software systems, and deal with security issues involved in a business environment.
6. Configure and maintain workstation and server operating systems, and hardware resources.
7. Research and interpret technical materials as they relate to areas of specialization.
8. Apply project life cycle concepts to assist in finding solutions to business needs.
9. Conduct and evaluate individual and small group instruction for information technology topics such as application software.

You may earn a certificate of completion by successfully completing the required 42 credit hours with a grade of “C” or better in all courses.
