CJ 132 Introduction to Parole and Probation Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Introduces the basic philosophies, principles, and functions of parole, probation, and community corrections. Focuses on the role of community corrections in the administration of justice, community corrections options, techniques and training issues, and current challenges and pressures impacting corrections options.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Describe the historical origins and philosophical foundations of probation, parole, and community corrections.
- Identify and describe the major options within diversion, probation, parole, and post-prison supervision.
- Identify and explain the major options within community corrections: work release, furloughs, transitional housing, electronic monitoring, and home confinement.
- Relate the factors impacting the use of probation, parole, post-prison supervision, and community corrections.
- List and explain probation/parole officer training requirements, stress factors, and retention issues.
- Identify and describe clients and their unique requirements.
