CJ 226 Introduction to Constitutional Law

Presents an overview of the U.S. Constitution and related court decisions pertaining to the Bill of Rights. Studies court decisions that determine the admissibility of evidence in criminal cases, and which affect police procedures. Considers the criminal procedure process with an emphasis on the role of law enforcement.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Analyze the provisions of the U.S. Constitution and its amendments in relation to the role of law enforcement.
  2. Apply the decisions and opinions of the U.S. Supreme Court to the laws of arrest, searches and seizures, evidence, confessions, freedom of speech, correctional procedures, and double jeopardy.
  3. Relate civil rights laws to law enforcement and corrections.
  4. Read and interpret Supreme Court briefs and opinions.
