CJ 232 Introduction to Corrections Casework Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Presents an overview of casework in corrections settings. Includes introduction to behavior modification theories and methods, contemporary counseling methods, assessment processes, and the development of officer-client relations. Emphasizes observation skills, perception issues, information gathering, interpersonal communication skills, and interviewing strategies and techniques as part of corrections casework.
Corequisite: CJ 103 with criminal history clearance; or current professional in the field; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Describe the correctional case management process.
- Identify core conditions of facilitative communications.
- Describe the assessment-diagnosis process used in corrections casework.
- Identify and explain the primary counseling processes utilized in corrections.
- Apply interviewing skills used in a corrections setting.
