GE 102 Engineering Computations

Lecture Hours: 2
Lab Hours: 2
Credits: 3

Acquaints engineering students with the use and operation of the microcomputer, using a computer algebra system. Covers the code and programs that will be developed and used in the solution of typical engineering problems. Emphasizes structured programming techniques.

Prerequisite: Placement into WR 115  (or higher), or completion of WR 090  (or higher); and placement into MTH 112Z  (or higher), or MTH 111Z , MTH 112Z , or MTH 251Z  (or higher); or consent of instructor. (All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.)
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Use a computer algebra system to solve engineering problems.
  2. Program routines with a microcomputer.
  3. Perform mathematical operations for typical engineering problems.
  4. Identify the essentials of input and output.
  5. Apply structured program development to solutions.
  6. Debug programs and routines.
  7. Apply control structures to engineering computations.
  8. Use strategies to verify solutions.
