APR 102 Trade Skills Intermediate Lecture Hours: 5 Lab Hours: 2 Credits: 6
Presents related trade skills consistent with the minimum skill requirements of the carpentry trade. Includes intermediate trades skill fundamentals with calculations. Introduces basic floor, wall and roof framing methods, blueprint reading and layout. OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR training will be offered in the course.
Prerequisite: Completion of APR 101 with a C or better; or instructor approval. Concurrent: APR 101 Student Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the general safety rules for operating all power tools, regardless of type
- Identify various types of building materials and their uses
- Describe the fasteners, anchors, and adhesives used in residential framing and explain their uses
- Recognize and identify basic construction plan set terms, components, and symbols
- Read and interpret plans, elevations, schedules, sections, and details contained in basic construction plan sets
- Identify the different types of framing systems
- Describe the procedure for laying out a wood framed floor, wall, and roof, including plates, corner posts, door and window openings, bracing, and fire stops.
- Layout, assemble, erect, and brace, floors, exterior wall, and roof rafters for a framed building
