APR 241H Iron Worker Intermediate 1 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 4 Credits: 5
Provides the apprentice with hands-on experience in erecting a pre-engineered metal building. Interpret charts and tables as well as safe work practices. Includes proper use of fiberline steel cable and chain in tackle/lever combinations for raising, transporting and storing of heavy loads. Use of access structures such as scaffolds. Emphasis is placed on knowledge and application of safe industry practices throughout the course.

- Comprehend and use ironworker terminology.
- Understand the basic requirements for metal building erection.
- Properly use and maintain the various tools and personal safety equipment needed on the job site.
- Demonstrate the ability to interpret charts and tables.
- Identify the various types of metal building structures and the procedures to properly erect each.
- Direct the operation of a crane using rigging hand signals.
- Apply the five basic knots used in ironworking.
- List and properly execute the basic hitches used when rigging with wire rope slings.
