FRP 168 NFPA Fire & Life Safety Educator 1 and Instructor 1

Designed to meet the needs of entry-level fire and emergency service instructors and those who coordinate and deliver community fire and risk prevention programs that intend to eliminate or mitigate situations that endanger lives, property, and the environment. Prepares participants for planning instruction, using a variety of instructional methods, teaching diverse learners, and evaluating course outcomes. Includes guidelines for addressing the critical issues of safety and the legal issues of education and training, and provides opportunities for participants to take part in application activities. Meets or exceeds competency standards established by the National Fire Protection Association including NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor I and NFPA 1035 Fire and Life Safety Educator I.

Student Learning Outcomes:
 

  1. Discuss the roles, responsibilities, and duties of a fire and emergency services instructor I and prepare training schedules, training records and activity reports.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of the learning process, different age group learning principles, and motivational techniques to meet student needs when teaching.
  3. Describe the instructional design process including selection of materials, delivery methods, and preparation of the instructional environment.
  4. Teach a prepared and adapted lesson plan, so the stated objectives are achieved.
  5. Administer different types of tests and demonstrate the ability to score and grade them.
  6. Identify community resources, services, organizations that can be partnered with to address current fire and life safety issues.
  7. Document, schedule and promote a fire and life safety presentation.
