HDF 260 Child Abuse and Neglect Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Introduces problems of child abuse and neglect for professionals in situations where children are cared for, such as child care centers and schools. This course may also be useful to other professionals who come into contact with children and need to be aware of issues regarding child abuse and neglect. Includes examining the causes of abuse, the abused child, the abusive parent and adult, the role of the teacher, areas of treatment, and education.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Recognize and list the major indicators of child abuse.
- Describe the legal relationship between one’s profession and your own state’s statute for reporting child abuse.
- Formulate a list of agencies that can assist abused children and their families.
- Analyze and apply indicators of potentially abusive adults to specific situations.
- Synthesize pertinent facts and construct a rationale for the problems child abuse has on society.
