Provides instruction in the basics of conducting, including the fundamentals of music, reading, and theory; basic conducting patterns; score study and preparation; beneficial practice habits.
Repeatable: Students may repeat this course for a maximum of 9 credits. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Use correct posture for conducting an ensemble.
- Employ correct beat patterns for conducting.
- Demonstrate independence of right and left hands.
- Demonstrate a familiarity with various meters, regular and irregular.
- Demonstrate a familiarity with appropriate musical terms and symbols.
- Discuss various musical periods and styles.
- Exhibit self-confidence using conducting techniques.
