Provides instruction in the basics of conducting, including the fundamentals of music, reading, and theory; basic conducting patterns; score study and preparation; beneficial practice habits.

Repeatable: Students may repeat this course for a maximum of 9 credits.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Use correct posture for conducting an ensemble.
  2. Employ correct beat patterns for conducting.
  3. Demonstrate independence of right and left hands.
  4. Demonstrate a familiarity with various meters, regular and irregular.
  5. Demonstrate a familiarity with appropriate musical terms and symbols.
  6. Discuss various musical periods and styles.
  7. Exhibit self-confidence using conducting techniques.
