CIS 101 Computing Concepts Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Introduces the basic microcomputer hardware/software system. Covers the concepts of system software and application software, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and introduction to Internet and digital security.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Identify basic computer hardware terminology associated with input, output, processing, and storage.
- Identify and use basic system software and information processing vocabulary.
- Use file management techniques for file and directory/folder administration.
- Implement word processing concepts to create, edit, and save a document.
- Identify spreadsheet concepts, follow instructions to create, edit, and save a workbook.
- Identify database concepts, follow instructions to create, save, and run a database.
- Identify presentation concepts to design, save, and run a presentation.
- Distinguish the appropriate software application for a given task.
- Understand and practice the elements of digital citizenship and internet safety
- Identify the role of security in a digital world.
