BA 224 Human Resource Management Lecture Hours: 4 Credits: 4
Studies the principles and functions of the human resource department as it specifically relates to supervision. Includes policy formulation, employee selection and placement, interviewing and counseling, discipline, labor-management relations, wage and salary administration, human resource development, and employee health and safety.
Recommended: Placement into WR 121Z ; and completion of BA 101Z with a grade of C or better.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Apply management strategies to a complex human resource situation, choose a course of action and justify the decision.
- List and describe the functions of human resources and apply this knowledge to supervision practices.
- List the steps of the recruiting process in order, describing the purpose and normal procedure involved in each step.
- Describe the steps necessary to implement employee recruitment, planning, and forecasting for a small company.
- Compare job descriptions and specifications, ranking the jobs according to at least seven significant factors. Estimate the wage and compare the estimate with the actual wage.
- Outline the elements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
- Plan and implement a dispute settlement which is acceptable to both parties.
- Write a complete job description and specifications for a job.
- Distinguish between policies and rules and formulate policy statements.
