BA 224 Human Resource Management

Studies the principles and functions of the human resource department as it specifically relates to supervision. Includes policy formulation, employee selection and placement, interviewing and counseling, discipline, labor-management relations, wage and salary administration, human resource development, and employee health and safety.

Recommended: Placement into WR 121Z ; and completion of BA 101Z  with a grade of C or better.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Apply management strategies to a complex human resource situation, choose a course of action and justify the decision. 
  2. List and describe the functions of human resources and apply this knowledge to supervision practices. 
  3. List the steps of the recruiting process in order, describing the purpose and normal procedure involved in each step. 
  4. Describe the steps necessary to implement employee recruitment, planning, and forecasting for a small company. 
  5. Compare job descriptions and specifications, ranking the jobs according to at least seven significant factors. Estimate the wage and compare the estimate with the actual wage. 
  6. Outline the elements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. 
  7. Plan and implement a dispute settlement which is acceptable to both parties. 
  8. Write a complete job description and specifications for a job. 
  9. Distinguish between policies and rules and formulate policy statements.
