BLD 260 Fire Protection for Buildings Lecture Hours: 4 Credits: 4
Covers the installation, function, location, and purpose of sprinkler systems.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the plan review processes and department operations
- Perform a structural plan review for residential and commercial plans and relate provisions on plans to relevant residential and commercial codes
- Verify design loads, site grades; foundations; rafter, joist and beam sizing; trusses; wall bracing, fasteners for prescriptive construction
- Review design basis and loads in calculations; verify plans and details are consistent with the calculations
- Identify basis of calculations (wind, seismic, materials, etc.) on structural plans and verify details are compatible with the calculations
- Identify engineered and prescriptive structural designs and apply the correct plan review method to each
- Review prescriptive wall bracing plans and details for compliance with the code
- Document required corrections through written and verbal communication
- Use computer software to perform basic electronic plan review operations
