BLD 266 Plan Review 2 Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 2 Credits: 3
Covers the fundamentals of structural plan review. Includes analysis of beams, columns, and connections.
Prerequisite: BLD 269 with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the plan review processes and department operations
- Perform a structural plan review for residential and commercial plans and relate provisions on plans to relevant residential and commercial codes .
- Verify design loads, site grades; foundations; rafter, joist and beam sizing; trusses; wall bracing, fasteners for prescriptive construction.
- Review design basis and loads in calculations; verify plans and details are consistent with the calculations.
- Identify basis of calculations (wind, seismic, materials, etc.) on structural plans and verify details are compatible with the calculations .
- Identify engineered and prescriptive structural designs and apply the correct plan review method to each .
- Review prescriptive wall bracing plans and details for compliance with the code
- Document required corrections through written and verbal communication
- Use computer software to perform basic electronic plan review operations
