CJ 112 Field Operations and Patrol Procedures Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Introduces the nature and purpose of patrol activities. Examines routine and emergency procedures and types of patrol. Focuses on force continuum, officer survival, arrest procedures, field interviews, and ethics. Explores methods of safely responding to various calls and individuals. Includes scenarios on occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens. Covers equipment, technology, and vehicle operation. Identifies gangs, drug use indicators, threat groups, and responses to civil disturbances. Emphasizes report documentation, courtroom testimony, and police tactical communications.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Identify standards of ethical conduct and community relations in patrol activities.
- Discuss interpersonal communication skills and techniques to de-escalate crisis situations and describe ways to recognize and deal with traumatic incidents.
- Demonstrate ways to resolve situations involving the mentally ill, traffic violators, DUIIs, and the presence of hazardous materials.
- Describe high-risk patrol tactics.
- Prepare accident investigations and police reports.
- Identify various professional demeanor roles that occur during court proceedings and how to deal with defense tactics.
- Explain the “winning attitude” correlation to survival chances
- Describe the relationship between physical fitness, productivity, health and safety
