CJ 282 Corrections Officer Related Experience 2 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 6 Credits: 6
CORE 2 focuses on topics, training and modern techniques using in the corrections professions to include: intake and release procedures, risk assessments, classification, custody/client supervision, group skills, and community alternatives. Covers the health and wellness needed for a successful career. Includes continued preparation for the abbreviated Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT), development of health and wellness behaviors, defensive tactices and less lethal options, physical fitness training, report writing and facility tour(s).
Prerequisite: CJ 281 with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Explain intake and booking procedures, custody /client risk assessments and classification processes.
- Discuss basic controlled substances frequently found within correctional facilities.
- Identify the skills and the daily tasks required to manage a case load.
- Apply communication skills and intervention techniques during crisis scenario training activities.
- Articulate knowledge gained from tour(s) to custody/client supervision and facility styles.
- Participate in scenarios and confrontational simulation, documenting actions and observations of the incidents through report writing.
- Perform ORPAT.
- Identify various Security Threat Groups and the concerns/dangers they pose to safety/security.
