DSL 111 Diesel Technology Introduction to Electrical and Electronics Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 8 Credits: 6
Introduces electrical/electronic fundamentals applied to diesel and agricultural vehicle systems. Includes theory, design, diagnosis, and repair of wiring and circuits, batteries, alternators, and starters, lighting system, gauge, horn, wiper/washer, and accessories. Uses test instruments and electrical troubleshooting manuals currently recommended by the industry. Provides a strong background in the theory, diagnosis, and repair of electrical and electronic systems.
Prerequisite: Placement into WR 080 and MTH 052 ; or consent of instructor. Concurrent: DSL 110 . Student Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the relationships between voltage, current flow and resistance.
- Demonstrate the operation of basic electrical circuits (series, parallel, series-parallel).
- Demonstrate the appropriate skills required to correctly diagnose and repair electrical and electronic circuits, systems and power accessories.
- Identify correct industry repair and diagnostic procedures.
- Identify and locate common connector information.
- Demonstrate correct safety procedures.
- Demonstrate appropriate time management skills.
