Covers practical application of theory and fundamental concepts of preschool, elementary, and secondary education, including history, development, and organization.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Identify characteristics of self as a learner (e.g. learning styles, multiple intelligences).
- Distinguish between effective and ineffective teaching.
- Explain and demonstrate the process of teaching, including effective communication skills in the classroom.
- Identify and utilize various methods of instruction and teaching resources.
- Compare various classroom experiences, including whole class instruction, individual tutoring, and group monitoring.
- Examine the history and development of education in the public schools.
- Distinguish between various alternatives to public education (e.g. private schools, home schooling, etc.).
- Debate various educational issues, including online instruction
- Explain how individuals and schools react to and handle the need for change.
- Develop one’s own vision of the transformation of education.
- Discuss the challenges of diversity in the classroom.
