EMT 169 Emergency Medical Technician Rescue Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Presents technical information on various rescue situations. Covers tools and equipment, ropes and knots, trench rescue, shoring, warehouse searches, outdoor searches, rescue in situations involving elevation differences, package patients, water and ice rescues, and vehicle extrication.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Define the role of EMS at emergencies involving rescue operations.
- Describe the desired organizational structure at an emergency scene and be able to apply that structure to various scenarios.
- Use basic rescue equipment, including ropes and knots, ladders, breathing apparatus, and other related equipment in rescue situations.
- Describe the appropriate response to auto extrication situations.
- Select and use extrication tools including, hydraulic tools, air chisels, various hand tools, and other related equipment.
- Use standard immobilization and extrication techniques to package and remove injured accident victims from vehicles.
