FRP 162 Managing Fire Personnel Lecture Hours: 1 Credits: 1
Introduces fire department human resource management techniques. Includes hiring, supervision and performance review procedures.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- List essential functions and required and desirable qualifications for fire service positions used for hiring in Oregon.
- Design recruitment and selection processes for fire personnel.
- Explain the impact of job satisfaction, rewards/recognition, pay/benefits, and training on the motivation and retention of employees.
- Explain the purpose of performance reviews and conduct these processes.
- Identify the types of disciplinary action which can be used and describe the legal processes which need to be followed during their use.
- Discuss possible labor-management relations issues.
- Review the role of management in developing quality training programs for staff.
- Describe management’s responsibility to ensure employee health and safety.
- Use personnel resources to operate the engine house and conduct fire ground operations using the industry standards of safety and efficiency.
