FRP 172 International Fire Codes Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Interprets the International Building Codes, International Fire Code, State Fire Marshal Fire Safety Regulations and related Oregon revised statutes, N.F.P.A. and other codes relating to fire prevention and life safety.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Use standard codes to classify maximum occupancy of structures and establish a fire exit plan.
- Describe the building types and indicate examples of their structural elements.
- Describe building construction components with regard to their fire-related purposes.
- Identify the general fire behavior expected of typical and special features to establish a fire exit plan.
- Explain building services which can affect fire protection.
- Identify, read, and interpret those model codes and laws adopted by the state and local jurisdiction pertaining to building fire and life safety.
- Identify the code requirements relative to fire protection equipment in various occupancy classifications.
- Apply the code requirements and recommended practices to the installation and maintenance of solid fuel burning appliances.
- Rate the fire hazards associated with the storage, handling, and use of flammable and combustible liquids.
- Estimate bulk storage requirements of flammable and combustible liquids.
- Distinguish between enclosed stairwells and smoke towers to determine if general construction and access are properly maintained.
