HM 115 ICD-10-CM Coding/Diagnosis Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 4
Introduces basic differences between nomenclature and classification systems: basic coding system, ICD-10-CM; basic abbreviations and description of format of coding manual; fundamental application of coding in basic forms.
Prerequisite: Enrolled in Healthcare Coding Certificate Student Learning Outcomes: - Use and maintain electronic applications and work processes to support clinical classification and coding.
- Apply diagnosis codes according to current nomenclature.
- Ensure accuracy of diagnostic/procedural grouping.
- Adhere to current regulations and established guidelines in code assignment.
- Validate coding accuracy using clinical information found in the health record.
- Use and maintain applications and processes to support other clinical classification and nomenclature systems.
- Resolve discrepancies between coded data and supporting documentation.
- Identify basic approved abbreviations in ICD-10-CM.
