HOR 201 Growing Vegetables in the Willamette Valley

Introduces important vegetable crop production in the Willamette Valley. Discusses history and current status of the Oregon vegetable industry. Presents essential cultural practices for vegetable production, including soil and fertility management, pest identification and control, and unique production aspects of individual vegetable crops.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Characterize vegetable crop production in the Willamette Valley. 
  2. Describe soil and fertility management techniques that result in successful vegetable production. 
  3. Discuss important cultural requirements for each vegetable crop. 
  4. Explain botanical relationships among vegetable crops. 
  5. Identify and describe key pests of individual vegetable crops. 
  6. Develop a five-year production plan for a diversified vegetable production farm in the Willamette Valley.
