PE 185SU Swimming, Adv Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 1
Develops and improves swimming skills and fitness levels through a pool workout. Emphasis will include stroke improvement and swim conditioning.
Student Learning Outcomes: Beginning
- Demonstrate full participation in pool workouts.
- Demonstrate rhythmic breathing, twenty times continuous.
- Demonstrate prone float and prone float with kick.
- Demonstrate back float and back float with kick.
- Demonstrate turning over and changing directions.
- Demonstrate jump, level, and swim.
- Demonstrate ability to swim at least one length side stroke and elementary back stroke.
- Demonstrate ability to swim at least one length of beginner stroke.
Intermediate
- Meet all beginning outcomes.
- Demonstrate full participation in pool workouts.
- Demonstrate ability to swim at least one length of front crawl and back crawl.
- Demonstrate ability to swim at least 1/2 length of breast stroke, underwater swim, and swim with rhythmic side breathing.
- Demonstrate treading water one minute, and front dive (if deep water pool available).
- Demonstrate duck dive.
- Swim 1/2 continuous mile at individual pace (or equivalent alternative arranged with the instructor).
Advanced
- Meet all beginning and intermediate outcomes.
- Demonstrate full participation in pool workouts.
- Demonstrate ability to swim two+ lengths with rhythmic side breathing.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the crawl stroke, back crawl, breast stroke, side stroke, elementary backstroke and open turning.
- Swim one continuous mile at individual pace (or equivalent alternative arranged with instructor).
