Introduces Hatha physical yoga. Includes the background, safety precautions and value of yoga. Emphasizes stretching postures (asanas), proper breathing techniques, stress reduction, and fitness skills.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Beginning 

  1. Identify the basic poses/postures. 
  2. Perform the poses in sequence with direction. 
  3. Describe some benefits of each pose. 
  4. Adhere to the safety considerations of each pose. 

Intermediate 

  1. Meet beginning objectives. 
  2. Perform sequence or poses without direction. 
  3. Demonstrate fluidity of motion and greater range of flexibility. 

Advanced 

  1. Meet beginning and intermediate objectives. 
  2. Identify multiple benefits of poses. 
  3. Practice proper breathing techniques.
