PHM 216 Advanced Sterile Compound/Cytotoxic Meds Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Provides advanced concepts of the sterility and quality assurance processes involving cytotoxic/hazardous medication products. Includes performance in accordance with the laws, regulations, and standards which govern.
Prerequisite: Fifth Term student in Pharmacy Management Program. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Utilize advanced knowledge of potential dangers of contaminants and the processes of sterilization and aseptic techniques.
- Apply up-to-date advanced industry safety standards to handle as well as process of working within aseptic settings and disposal of hazardous agents.
- Prepare accurate advanced dosage calculations to meet hospital requirements for medications, infusing times,
- Ability to compound advanced products such as chemotherapy, TPN, and pediatric preparations, immunizations and drug stability of advanced products.
- Gain and apply knowledge of hospital medication storage equipment and ability to program and fill ordered products from healthcare departments., secondary engineering controls
- Working knowledge of features in advanced secondary engineering controls, conducting different types of environmental monitoring (temperature, pressure, and humidity parameters and/or tolerances for facilities and controlled environments),
- Identify advanced list of generic and brand names, indications, side effects and therapeutic classifications, dosage, routes, of hazardous drugs used in sterile compounding.
