PHM 216 Advanced Sterile Compound/Cytotoxic Meds

Provides advanced concepts of the sterility and quality assurance processes involving cytotoxic/hazardous medication products. Includes performance in accordance with the laws, regulations, and standards which govern.

Prerequisite: Fifth Term student in Pharmacy Management Program.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Utilize advanced knowledge of potential dangers of contaminants and the processes of sterilization and aseptic techniques. 
  2. Apply up-to-date advanced industry safety standards to handle as well as process of working within aseptic settings and disposal of hazardous agents. 
  3. Prepare accurate advanced dosage calculations to meet hospital requirements for medications, infusing times, 
  4. Ability to compound advanced products such as chemotherapy, TPN, and pediatric preparations, immunizations and drug stability of advanced products.
  5. Gain and apply knowledge of hospital medication storage equipment and ability to program and fill ordered products from healthcare departments., secondary engineering controls   
  6. Working knowledge of features in advanced secondary engineering controls, conducting different types of environmental monitoring (temperature, pressure, and humidity parameters and/or tolerances for facilities and controlled environments), 
  7. Identify advanced list of generic and brand names, indications, side effects and therapeutic classifications, dosage, routes, of hazardous drugs used in sterile compounding.
