PHM 230 Pharmaceutical Drug Classifications Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Covers the sources, classifications, and prototypes of drugs. Examines pharmaceutical names; routes of administration; pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of xenobiotics; and pathophysiology of various systemic body systems. Studies variables that affect drug actions including, contraindications and drug interactions; prescription abbreviations and interpretations; drug marketing; and drug approval processes.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Classify pharmaceuticals and name prototypes of drug classifications.
- Identify and name routes of drug administration.
- Contrast the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of xenobiotics.
- Explain the variables involved in contraindications and interactions of drug administration.
- Describe pathophysiology of various systemic body systems and identify medication treatments for diseases identified.
- Recite, write, and define prescription abbreviations.
- Describe the drug marketing and drug approval processes.
