WLD 197 Welding Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 2
Covers the fundamentals and application of arc welding, oxyacetylene welding, brazing, and cutting, as they pertain to the automotive industry.
Prerequisite: Sixth-term standing in the Automotive Technology program; or consent of program chair. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate the basic technical information related to basic arc welding fundamentals.
- Demonstrate the correct setup and operation of arc welding equipment.
- Demonstrate basic skills and techniques concerning flat, horizontal, and vertical welding positions.
- Demonstrate, the steps required to visually inspect a weld.
- Demonstrate basic skills and techniques used with A.C. and D.C. current.
- Demonstrate the correct method of identifying arc welding electrodes.
- Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of the safety practices that must be employed when using oxyacetylene welding and cutting equipment.
- Demonstrate, through written and practical knowledge, basic oxyacetylene welding, brazing and cutting skills.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skill required to troubleshoot and correct problems involving oxyacetylene welds, oxy cutting and welding equipment.
- Demonstrate, through laboratory practices, the correct manner in which to adjust the oxyacetylene flame for different welding conditions.
- Demonstrate various welds through completion of assigned welds.
- Demonstrate, through lecture materials, the correct method of identifying oxyacetylene filler materials.
