BLD 130 Permit Technician Lecture Hours: 2 Credits: 2
Introduces the roles and responsibilities of permit technicians in a building department. Familiarizes students with the building-development process, particularly as it relates to the submission and review of construction documents and drawings. Exercises students in evaluating permit applications for residential and commercial construction and rendering technical assistance to ensure compliance with applicable building codes. Prepares students for success on the International Code Council’s Permit Technician Certification exam.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Explain the roles and responsibilities of building department professionals, especially permit technicians, in the building-development process.
- Explain in detail how permit intake and issuance, plan review, and building inspection support the building-development process.
- Explain the purpose and content of construction documents.
- Master the portions of the building codes necessary to assist customers navigate the permitting process.
- Pass the International Code Council’s Permit Technician Certification exam.
