BH 108 Youth and Treatment Lecture Hours: 2 Credits: 2
Focuses on working with youth and substance use. Includes prevention, intervention, assessment, and continuing recovery techniques for individuals and groups.
Prerequisite: BH 101 with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Increase knowledge of adolescent development according to major theorists.
- Apply programs designed for prevention of addiction in youth to individuals and groups.
- Assess and intervene in alcohol and drug use in youth with clients.
- Assess and intervene in eating disorders with adolescent clients.
- Relate treatment models for addicted youth to a client base.
- Apply skills and specific techniques for counseling chemically dependent youth (i.e., reality therapy, play/art therapy, challenge course, etc.).
- Identify and explain the dynamics in families affected by youth addiction.
- Use knowledge of the relapse risk for youth and relapse programs to support continuing recovery.
