NUR 112 LPN To RN Transition Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 6 Credits: 5
Assists the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to begin the process of role transition and preparation for the rigors of the Associate Degree Nursing curriculum. Updates and enhances student knowledge by incorporating content and skills from the following competency areas: role development and transition; professional behaviors and responsibilities; communication; assessment; clinical decision-making and the nursing process; drug-dose and calculations; teaching-learning; collaboration; and managing care.
Corequisite: Completion of an OSBN-approved PN program; possession of a current, unencumbered LPN license; worked a minimum of 1000 hours as an L.P.N. in the past 3 years; completed all nursing program required general education courses with a “C” or better; current documentation of required vaccination, screenings, and A.H.A approved B.L.S. for the healthcare provider; and provisional admission to the LPN to RN nursing program. - Describe the process of role transition and learning strategies that one can use to maximize success in an Associate Degree Nursing program.
- Explain the importance of the nursing process in guiding nursing practice
- Demonstrate proficiency with the standard LPN skills including drug dose calculations.
- Differentiate between the role of the LPN and RN in relation to legal and ethical responsibilities and in terms of core competencies.
- Describe methods for maintaining and promoting standards of nursing practice through patient centered care providing quality and safe care, sound decision making, participating in teamwork and collaboration, acting professionally, and utilizing appropriate informatics and technology.
