Behavioral Health - Addiction Counselor Certification Preparation Certificate

The Addiction Counselor Certification Preparation (ACCP) Certificate offered through the Behavioral Health program (BHP) is designed for individuals with a baccalaureate or master’s degree seeking the necessary coursework and practical experience to enable them to compete for employment in the field of substance use treatment. This certificate prepares students to take the Oregon Level I Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CADC) exam. In addition to basic skills training, students who complete the certificate will learn and apply trauma informed, culturally responsive counseling skills for diverse populations in a variety of treatment settings and levels of care.

Students completing this certificate program should be able to:

  1. Describe the nature of human systems: individual, group, organization, community, and society, and their major interactions.
  2. Describe the conditions that promote or limit optimal functioning in the major human systems.
  3. Identify and select interventions that promote client growth and goal attainment.  
  4. Plan, implement, and evaluate interventions. 
  5. Select interventions that are congruent with the values of one self, clients, the employing organization, and the Behavioral Health profession.  
  6. Use process skills to plan and implement services. 
  7. Adapt assessment skills and interventions to a variety of settings. 
  8. Comprehend and recognize the worth and uniqueness of the individual, including race, culture, ethnicity, gender, religion, learning style, abilities, sexual orientation, age, social class, and other expressions of diversity. 

Students must complete this 55 credit hour certificate program with all a grade of “C” or better in all courses taken.
