Apprenticeship - Construction Trades, General Apprenticeship: Limited Energy Technician program is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to enter the workforce in the renewable energy field as technicians in solar photovoltaic and thermal installations. The solar energy technician completes accurate site assessment and energy demand analysis from which a solar energy system will be designed and installed. The program prepares students to sit for industry-recognized certifications required to enter the workforce. Solar energy technicians need strong electrical, technical, and computer skills.

Program Outcomes

Students completing the Construction Trades General Apprenticeship: Limited Energy Technician AAS degree should be able to satisfy the following outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the operation of photovoltaic and solar thermal system.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to solve technical problems associated with the photovoltaic and solar thermal installations.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of environmental regulations in the installation of photovoltaic and solar thermal systems.

Limited Energy Technician Specialization

The degree requires completion of a registered apprenticeship. 

Limited Energy Technician Specialiation Apprenticeship application requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year of high school algebra with grade “C” or better; or completion of MTH 060   (or higher) at Chemeketa; or placing into MTH 070   (or higher) on a college placement test.

Limited Energy Tecbhnician Apprenticeship specialization degree requirements:

  • Journey-level status in the Limited Energy Technician industry.
  • Complete a minimum of 30 credits at Chemeketa.
  • Complete the general education requirements for the AAS degree.
  • Complete a minimum of 90 approved credits; 45 credits are awarded for proof of journey-level status.

Students may earn an Associate of Applied Science degree by successfully completing the Construction Trades, General Apprenticeship general education requirements of 20 credits, plus additional credits in the Limited Energy Technician area of specialization, and 45 credits for proof of journey-level status.
