The Irrigation Technician certificate program provides hands-on training and education in irrigation system design, operation, scheduling, and troubleshooting. Students entering the workforce may work in positioms such as irrigation designer, installation foreman, service technician, or sales personnel.

After completing this certificate students will be prepared to pass the exam for either the Certified Agricultural Irrigation Specialist (Irrigation Association) or the Specification for Irrigation System: Installation and Maintenance Certification Programs (EPA WaterSense).

Program Outcomes

Students completing this certificate should be able to satisfy the following outcomes:

  1. Distinguish between the different types of irrigation equipment and their applications.
  2. Design basic irrigation systems.
  3. Install properly designed irrigation systems.
  4. Identify mechanical components of valves, center pivots and pumps.
  5. Analyze irrigation pumps and controls in relation to a complete irrigation system.
  6. Assess and design fish screens.
  7. Perform soil moisture measurements and water scheduling.
  8. Develop an understanding of water related cultural perspectives, views and opinions.
  9. Understand watershed processes and how they relate to the natural environment.
  10. Gain insight into water laws and policies in the Pacific Northwest which affect the use and non-use of water.

You may earn a certificate of completion by successfully completing the required 44 credit hours with a grade of “C” or better in all courses.
