Sociology is the systematic and scientific study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. Sociology students investigate the structures of group life, organizations, and societies and how people interact within these contexts. Students studying sociology bring new perspectives on diversity, social issues, and social systems relevant to today’s workplaces. Sociology majors typically find work in human resources, public policy, teaching, criminal justice, law, marketing, consulting, social work, and research.

Chemeketa offers a number of sociology courses. All of these courses can be used to fulfill the Social Science requirements of the Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree and the Associate of Science Transfer degrees in Business and Computer Science. See Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer (AAOT) Degree Requirements  for a complete listing. Oregon’s state universities offering Bachelor of Arts and/or Bachelor of Science degrees in Sociology are Oregon State University, Portland State University, University of Oregon, and Western Oregon University. Eastern Oregon University offers an Anthropology/Sociology degree with emphasis in Sociology, and Southern Oregon University offers a Sociology and Anthropology degree. 

As a student, you are responsible for learning the departmental requirements of the school to which you plan to transfer. Consult with Chemeketa Advising and First Year Programs staff or a Chemeketa Sociology faculty advisor. Also, you should make early contact with an advisor at the institution to which you plan to transfer to learn of any possible changes in an academic area.
