Provides a broad overview of United States government and civics. Examines primary and secondary sources for relevant topics and information. Examines how historical context shapes an author’s view. Looks at the chronological, causal and sequential elements of a historical narrative. Provides preparation for engagement in voting, jury service and other civic duties. Analyses graphic and visual information needed to answer GED questions.

  1. Analyze and create text in a social studies context. 
  2. Identify the chronological structure of a historical narrative. 
  3. Examine primary and secondary sources, including visual and graphic sources, for accuracy and author’s view.  
  4. Compare opposing views and dissect arguments. 
  5. Identify parts and functions of the US constitution. 
  6. Name the branches, Levels, and functions of the US government. 
  7. Describe the electoral process. 
  8. Understand the duties and roles of a citizen.
