XHSC 0933J High School Explorations in Social Studies 3: World History

Introduces concepts of social studies related to world history. Includes an overview of ancient empires and cultures, influences on the development of modern nations, global expansion, and key political conflicts. Involves interpretation of graphs, statistics and maps. Includes discussion of current political issues emerging from historical events and values.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify five ancient empires and list the influence they had on thought, science, art, government, and culture.
  2. Describe early migration patterns.
  3. Identify factors in the development of nations.
  4. Describe key cultural movements such as the Crusades, Renaissance and Humanism, the Age of Exploration, and Industrial revolution.
  5. Analyze the cause and effect of key events in the development of world civilizations and trace their impact on the modern world.
  6. Explain key global expansion efforts such as discovery of the Americas or trade routes in Asia.
  7. Describe the impact of European invasion on indigenous peoples as well as the impact of new trade items on European economies.
  8. Interpret charts and graphs.
  9. Identify the roots of nation development in conflict events such as World War I.
