WLD 186 Fabrication Lathe Fundamentals Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 4 Credits: 3
Introduces machine turning operations as related to fabrication with emphasis on repair work, weld preparation and work holding methods. Covers various additive and subtractive manufacturing techniques and processes found throughout the fabrication industry.
Prerequisite: WLD 205 with a grade of C or better; or equivalent industrial experience as determined by program chair; or consent of program chair. Recommended: 2nd year standing in Welding program. WLD 155 with a grade of C or better.
Maximum number of credits course can be taken for: 3
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Define machine tool types, machine parts and accessories to operate a lathe.
- Apply industry safety standards to machine operation, maintenance, and part inspection.
- Practice industry-accepted work habits in carrying out safety, work, quality, productivity and general housekeeping standards.
- Perform machining operations, emphasizing proper tool selection, procedures, and work holding as applied to fabrication and repair work.
- Apply calculations and formulas to ensure safe lathe operation and material removal.
