WLD 187 Fabrication Milling Processes Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 4 Credits: 3
Covers basic milling processes with regard to fabrication, assembly, and part repair. The course covers work-holding methods, tool selection and use, calculations, and process planning/application. Includes operation of milling machines as seen in typical fabrication environments.
Prerequisite: WLD 205 with a grade of C or better; or equivalent industrial experience as determined by program chair; or consent of program chair. Recommended: 2nd year standing in Welding program. WLD 155 with a grade of C or better.
Maximum number of credits course can be taken for: 3
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Practice industry-approved safety practices while operating a milling machine.
- Identify and distinguish between milling machines types and related functions.
- Apply formulas and calculations to establish operational parameters for safe milling operations.
- Use milling machine operations to re/construct and repair components.
- Select work-holding devices, tool holders, and tooling for milling machine operations specific to fabrication applications.
- Use milling machine accessories and attachments for machining operations.
