APR 156D HVAC/R Apprenticeship Intermediate 1

Focuses on the principals of AC power, functionality of refrigeration compressors, characteristics and use of refrigerants and oils, leak detection, evacuation, recovery, and charging refrigerant systems. Designed for Oregon state State recognized apprentices working in the HVAC/R trade.

Prerequisite: APR 156C  with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Explain how AC power is generated and how it is used. 
  2. Identify and describe the operating characteristics of different compressor types. 
  3. Define refrigerants/refrigerant oils and their desirable characteristics/applications for use. 
  4. Describe the equipment and the approaches used to leak test, evacuate, recover, and charge refrigerant circuits.
