AUM 267 Engine Performance 2 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 6 Credits: 5
Focuses on automotive fuel injection and ignition systems involving computer functions, inputs, commands, system diagnosis, causes of emissions, and testing of related systems. Covers turbocharging and supercharging.
Prerequisite: AUM 262 , AUM 263 , AUM 266 , and AUM 277 , each with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Describe computer control inputs, commands, and operations.
- List automotive fuel injection types and operation and describe testing.
- Describe engine knocks, detonation, pre-ignition, timing, and formulate service solutions.
- Define basic emissions and testing procedures.
- Discuss ignition systems and operation.
- Explain the operation of turbochargers and superchargers and their controls.
- Compare the operation of OBD I and II emission systems.
- Explain operation of alternate and multiple fuel vehicles.
