BA 291 Data Analytics for Accounting Lecture Hours: 4 Credits: 4
Prepares students to successfully perform data analytics to provide data-driven insights and recommendations. Students will conduct data analysis using Excel, Access (including SQL), Tableau, and Power BI.
Prerequisite: CIS 121 ; CIS 125E or BA 225 (or concurrently enrolled); and BA 213Z ; or consent of instructor. (All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.) Student Learning Outcomes:
- Describe how accountants can benefit from using data analytics and be able to solve accounting and business related problems using appropriate data modeling tools.
- Understand how data is collected, created, stored, and shared by technology and be able to identify and evaluate sources of unstructured and structured data for use in analysis.
- Utilize data mining techniques to discover anomalies in accounting and financial data using simulations and other modeling for accounting metrics.
- Create visualizations of data to provide clear insights into associations, relationships, outliers and other data intimations related to accounting anomalies.
- Understand and identify business risks and ethical issues related to data collection, storage, and use.
