BLD 142 International Residential Codes 2 Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Covers the floor, wall, roof, chimney, electrical, and energy conservation provisions of the International Residential Specialty Code (Chapters 5 through 11) as it relates to residential construction and other applicable codes. Emphasis placed on lateral bracing provisions and preparation to take the ICC Residential Building Inspector Certification Exam.
Prerequisite: BLD 141 with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Recall code requirements for floor, wall, and roof assemblies as they apply to wood, steel, concrete, and masonry construction.
- Discuss methods for performing inspections and plan reivews of each material and method of construction.
- Describe lateral bracing methods and as applied to residential structures when conducting plan reviews and inspections.
- Explain the minimum code provisions for the building envelope including roof and wall coverings.
- Identify electrical code requirements for residential construction.
- Determine the code requirements energy conservation.
- Understand the required elements of the International Code Council Residential Building Inspector Certification Exam (B1)
