BLD 152 Building Codes 2 Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Studies the scope, meaning, and use of the Model International Building Code concerning areas that present hazards in building construction such as vertical shafts, treatment of exterior and interior surfaces, detailed exit requirements, fire protection systems, public property and weather protection.
Prerequisite: BLD 151 with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Evaluate exit systems regulated by building code.
- Assess when a structure requires a sprinkler system.
- Judge when a specific flame-spread classification is required in a structure
- Evaluate when accessibility requirements are necessary.
- Identify specific fire-related assemblies, flame-spread classifications, and fire retardant assemblies.
- Relate code requirements to a specific occupancy or type of construction.
