BLD 166 Commercial Inspection

Provides a comprehensive overview of commercial construction inspection practices from site preparation through final inspection. Introduces inspection of foundations; framing (including floor, wall, and ceiling/roof assemblies); mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; fire-protection systems; moisture and thermal protection; building accessibility; and building final. Identifies code violations, documenting (in writing) those violations, and citing applicable code provisions.

Prerequisite: BLD 152  with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify the purpose of each blueprint sheet and its applicability to building inspections at each stage of construction.
  2. Demonstrate a systematic process to inspect each stage of construction.
  3. Identify building construction that does not meet current building code. 
  4. Write correction notices using clear language and appropriate terminology to describe the required correction. 
  5. Cite current building codes to document inspection findings.
