CG 110 Career and Life Planning

Introduces the lifeline process and exploration of self-awareness, Chemeketa Pathways, and strategies for effective career decision making. Provides assessment of individual personality styles/traits, interests, skill/abilities, expectations and values. Introduces methods and resources for conducting occupational research to develop individual career plans.

Recommended: Placement into WR 090  or higher; or consent of instructor. Familiar with online navigation and competent computer skills.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify personal expectations and the stages of life and career transitions and describe how they affect career decision making. 
  2. Introduce theories of career development and apply it to their educational and career experience.
  3. Identify their interests, values, abilities, strenghts and transferable skills. 
  4. Describe their personality style and traits and how these affect occupational/career choice. 
  5. Describe both existing and potential barriers to occupational selection. 
  6. Describe the steps in effective decision making in and demonstrate the application of these steps intheir career/life plan.
  7. Identify, evaluate and utilize multiple campus resources including Advising, Counseling & Career Services, and Cooperative Work Experience (CWE). 
  8. Develop a written, individualized Career Action Plan that describes career goals, objectives, timelines and action steps.
  9. Research career/occupatiaonal information and print and web resources.
  10. Participate in informational interviews, job shadows, and field trips.
