CIS 140B Microcomputer Operating Systems

Credits: 3

Studies operating systems currently used on microcomputers. Includes experience in using these operating systems to access files and communicate with other microcomputers. Discusses computer security basics relating to microcomputer operating systems and its users.

Prerequisite: CIS 101  or CIS 120 , either with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify the major elements of a computer cooperating systems.
  2. Compare and contrast various microcomputer operating systems.
  3. Explain the role of a command line operating system. 
  4. Select and apply the commands of the command line to manage hardware and software. 
  5. Describe security threats to computers and users. 
  6. Identify methods to protect against security threats. 
  7. Describe the various types of virtualization and how to implement. 
  8. Apply methods to troubleshoot common network client problems. 
  9. Diagnose and implement solutions related to operating systems troubleshooting.
