CJ 261B Law Enforcement Related Experience 2 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 6 Credits: 6
LERE 2 focuses on topics, training and practical application covered in the LERE coursework that aligns with best practices and the most modern techniques used in the law enforcement profession. Involves the overview of criminal Oregon Revised Statutes as related to nuisance crimes and their investigation. Introduces an overview of the mental strength and fitness needed for on the job and private life resiliency and the issues law enforcement deals with through implicit bias and community crime prevention. Covers the communication abilities needed for success through interview/interrogation rapport building, how to conduct a field interview, and writing a police summary. Involves understanding use of force case law and its application in confrontational simulations, defensive tactics skill building, physical fitness training, and an introduction to drone usage in law enforcement.
Prerequisite: CJ 261A with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Locate nuisance crimes in the Oregon Criminal Code Book.
- Describe the impact of implicit bias on job performance.
- Relate community crime prevention to the law enforcement functions.
- Relate the need for mental strength, fitness, and resiliency as a law enforcement professional.
- Describe the importance of the police summary and perform the skill of writing this type of police report.
- Perform a Field Interview following all guidelines as set through statute, Constitutional law, and court direction.
- Perform learned defensive tactics skills, while abiding under current use of force case law, in a confrontational contact.
